Systematic examinations for high-risk workplaces

Medical examination for workers with systematically risky workplaces.

Examination Details

Preliminary and periodic systematic medical examinations, according to regulations prescribed by law, are conducted for every person who establishes employment on a workplace with increased risk. The employer is obligated to perform a special medical examination to determine health conditions and employment capability for work at a workplace with increased risk.

The Occupational Medicine Service performs preliminary and periodic medical examinations.

PRELIMINARY SYSTEMATIC MEDICAL EXAMINATIONS FOR HIGH-RISK WORKPLACES

Preliminary systematic medical examinations are conducted to determine special health conditions and employee capability for work at a workplace with increased risk.

This employee examination is performed:

  • before the employee starts work at a workplace with increased risk;
  • before transferring the employee to a workplace with increased risk;
  • upon every determination of new risks at the workplace with increased risk where the employee works;
  • if the employee is assigned to a workplace with increased risk and had an interruption in performing duties at that workplace longer than 12 months

PERIODIC MEDICAL EXAMINATIONS FOR HIGH-RISK WORKPLACES

Periodic systematic medical examinations are conducted to monitor and evaluate health status, i.e., the employee's capability to perform duties at the workplace with increased risk where the employee works in relation to risk factors of that workplace, within deadlines prescribed by these regulations.

The employer refers the employee for periodic medical examination:

  • no later than 30 days before the deadline established by these regulations expires;
  • after concluding sick leave due to severe work injury;
  • after illness or injury not related to work – if there is suspicion of reduced work capability.

Preliminary and periodic medical examination of the employee includes general examination or specific examination and involves:

  • Laboratory analyses (CBC, ESR, glucose, urine)
  • ECG, blood pressure measurement, height, weight, Body Mass Index
  • Audiometry
  • Spirometry
  • Vision function testing – orthopter or specialist ophthalmologist examination
  • Psychological examination
  • Occupational medicine specialist examination
  • Chest X-ray – as indicated by the doctor
